50 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE

It had been 50 years since XYZ’s founders first posted their names on their new company’s makeshift shed. In 1901, the company had only one project. By 1950, XYZ Inc. had already tackled more than 5,000 projects and contracts throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, as well as in Central and South America. The company was about to celebrate its 50th anniversary in its new downtown facility -- the spacious 12-story XYZ building at 100 Main Street.

The wide range of projects over the previous five decades had included work in construction, engineering, utilities consulting, valuations and appraisals, and in manufacturing-type industries. (1) The company had also conducted projects for state and city governments, as well as extensive munitions manufacturing at the U.S. Army’s colossal processing plant at Anytown during World War II. The fact that XYZ designed, supervised the construction, and consequently operated the 20,000-acre plant led to the U.S. Army rewarding the company with another prestigious contract.

DECADE OF DEDICATION

Throughout the 1950s, XYZ continued to service its loyal clients and welcomed new ones. The company performed economic, mechanical and engineering design studies for power plants and manufacturing plants; it designed and supervised the construction of warehouses and laboratories; designed and installed machinery for production lines; continued its manufacture of munitions for the U.S. government; and undertook transportation surveys for municipalities -- just to name a few of the company’s vast products and services. By 1959, the company conducted its work through four main departments: reports, industrial engineering, management services, and engineering design and construction. (16)

An impressive client list included all-American companies such as DEF, GHI, and JKL. In 1957, XYZ helped design a new plant in Main City, USA for the DEF Company. The 225,000 square-foot facility manufactured glass products, and eventually produced 800,000 pounds of glass per day. The plant also included areas for raw materials handling and mixing, glass melting and forming, product storage, as well as room for an administration area. (17)

With the 1950's coming to a close, America was quickly advancing into the Space Age. It was about to elect a new president. XYZ was also about to experience a dramatic change. It would merge with the smaller, but reputable family-owned QQQ Company -- a change that would launch XYZ into a new era of outstanding corporate values and growth.
